The Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre now offers Real Time Ultrasound Imaging to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and recovery from back, pelvic, incontinence, groin and hip problems.

The muscles that are involved in stabilising these parts of the body are very deep and difficult to accurately assess clinically.  Real Time Ultrasound Imaging produces an image of the stabilising muscles on a screen and allows our trained physiotherapists to watch the muscles work while they are being activated.  This allows for a more accurate and measurable assessment of these muscles and can teach you how to exercise correctly.  Research shows that enhanced stability can potentially reduce the risk of recurring injury.

Real Time Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive procedure and does not produce radiation.  Your physiotherapist or doctor will advise if they believe Real Time Ultrasound Imaging would be of benefit to you.

Initial Real Time Ultrasound Imaging consultations are for 40 minutes and the cost is $100.00. Review consultations are either for 20 or 40 minutes at a cost of $80.00 and $100.00 respectively. Consultations can be claimed on Private Health Insurance.
